APs – real weekly cost

      Just browsing the cars this morning, I’m a little addicted with only 2 months of current lease left and no car ordered yet, and I realised the staggering true cost of some APs.

      I decided to divide the APs by 156 ( 3 years in weeks) and discovered the reality that many APs are an additional 30%, and in many cases more, of my weekly allowance.  It strikes me that the scheme is no longer fit for purpose as the real cost of owning a car is not met by the allowance.

      Thoughts?

        The Tiguan phev at £8000 advance would be around £51 a week over three years

          I agree it is now expensive and share the same views and thoughts about many regarding this.

          That said, unless you want to risk a purchase and the expenses they incur, you still cannot find a full maintenance lease/PCP with a 20000 mile allowance for anything near the same “price” as Motability.

          I totally get that for many customers, particularly those who do not do many miles, it is now worth looking at other options. But for those who do a reasonable amount (myself included), I feel it is still worth it (I have done several comparisons for buying myself). Frustrating the scheme is not what it was, but not many things are at the moment, including the price of used cars.

            Of course its only that price if you want a big car(and many of us need one). Some of smaller ones are a bit more affordable. 8k is an awful lot extra for a vw imo. especially as a few months ago you could get a nice bmw for under 3k.  It may be overall cheaper to rethink your mobility solution out of car, so a smaller boot is usable. Obviously this wont help everyone but its what i did. a folding scooter and small hoist allowed me to pack it all in a small boot with space left for shopping; and all seats up. I also still saved a fair bit of money t’boot.

            worth considering in these days of high cost ap’s

            Current Car: Hyundai Kona Premium EV...2 way 40kg hoist
            Last Car: Toyota C-HR Excel Hybrid...4 way 80kg hoist

              The times, they are a changing. With many issues within the motor trade, I can not see much changing to Motability. It is what it is. Maybe the good times will come back later this year when the motor trade settles down? I have certainly had some ‘bargains’ over the years as well as paid through the nose.

                I will probably keep my next car over 5 years like this one. I can’t compromise with boot as 2 wheelchairs mine and my daughters cars that I looked at which are suitable are about 4/5k on ghdd Ed present choice with what I need for my disability. So possibly think looking at it over 5 years is it better to stay on motability of go tours of pcp or similar?

                  This is how my next car weekly cost will workout with current rates and cost…

                  AP             = £20.50 p/w

                  Adaption = £ 6-63 p/w

                  PIP =          £62-55 p/w

                  Blimey a grand total of £89-68 per week not including fuel.

                  A good thread Notts-Red but did you have to. ?

                    My lease to date per week:

                    AP £1699 approximately £11.00

                    PIP £62.55

                    Total £73.55

                    Fuel cost £640 average over the past 18 months £8.20

                    Total lease plus fuel cost £81.75

                    So basically take out the PIP my weekly contribution £19.20 per week

                    Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
