Hi. My AP on a new car I have ordered has increased . However when I spoke to the dealer about this he told me that I would have to pay the Increased AP as they were giving me a free sat nav as a Sorry for the change in model. I know it’s only £200 but money is money today. So was wondering is it worth speaking to Motability about this. Or do I have to pay the New AP.

Once a dealer places the order on the Motability system, the AP is fixed. If it goes up you don’t pay the increase. If it goes down, the dealer is able to cancel and re-order on the Motability system without affecting the ‘proper’ order, which is between the dealer and the manufacturer.

Where this sometimes goes wrong is if the dealer hasn’t inputted the order on the Motability system before the AP changes. A few people have been caught out by this.

However, you mention a “change of model” and whilst you haven’t given any detail about this, it sounds as though you might have ordered a model that is no longer available and you are now getting the new / replacement model, which has an AP that is £200 more. Is that correct? If so, technically the dealer is correct. If the dealer isn’t willing to match the AP for the previous model then I’d be inclined to call Motability and see if they will make a goodwill gesture and match the previous models AP. I’ve not known them do it, but given the cash surpluses that they make it is clear that the APs that we pay are much higher than needed to cover the costs, so you would hope that there is some discretion in cases such as this.

Let us know how you get on (as well as more details on the model) as it will be of use to others in a similar situation.

Well I spoke to Motability who informed me The Price you pay is What you agreed when you order. This does work both ways and should the dealer want to help then they can amend the order to give the lower price. However they do not have to do that. I told the chap I was considering cancelling and going elsewhere and he replied to make sure the car you want is available before cancelling.  So No goodwill from Motability and I will mull over this and see closer the date. Think I will wait for October prices and take it from there.

I’m confused you say motability have told you the price you pay is the price when ordered so your surely paying the lower price then.

Make a complaint to Motability. Seems to me the people who answer the phones are there to say no and get rid of you. If you make a complaint you get to the real decision makers who might offer you something.

When I was messed about by BP fitting a charger for 6 months helpline staff were nothing we can do etc etc filled the complaint form in and was instantly offered options and got it sorted.

Well Shock of the year. Got an Email from Motability yesterday to call dealership. The DS3 I ordered on 2nd October 23 has arrived. The dealer told me that it was in garage awaiting and ready to pick up on Tuesday 21st Nov. Well that s a total of 7 weeks from order for a Factory Build.  Very Happy. Can’t wait.

Nice one. Enjoy the car when it arrives & don’t forget to post photos. Always thought the DS3 was a stunning looking car!
