Okay let’s try and lighten the mood from the other topic. Anyone got any recommendations for what to watch on TV. I’m really struggling to find anything lately, we usually start a series on Netflix or Prime, watch 3 and give up. If I were to give a recommendation it would be the new Luther film that’s just dropped on Netflix. The production company left the BBC and went to Netflix as they were unhappy with the very low budget the Beeb were offering. Anyway the film is excellent, very well made, you can see where the budget went. I actually put my iPhone down for two hours.
Any recommendations???

Colin From Accounts. Brilliantly written and acted by the two main characters. Currently running on the Beeb but all episodes are on iPlayer.

I’ve seen the preview, it does look funny, though I don’t usually like foreign made comedies.

DafDont know if you like films but I watched Hacksaw Ridge again last night and is an excellent watch if you haven’t already seen it. It’s on Sky Cinema

Ive not seen it @Daf but I’ve read the synopsis and will give it a go, I have Sky Cinema. Best war film after Battle Of Britain is Full Metal Jacket, I watch every time it’s on.

May 5, 2023 at 7:52 pm #220817Couple of series:
Vikings: Valhalla – sequel to Vikings, a hundred years have passed Netflix.
Cobra Kai – Karate Kid rebuth with older original main actors Netflix.
Manifest – orginally on Sky Atlantic, last season moved to Netflix.
As for films I do like Horror or Action, with a few true ones thrown in.
May 6, 2023 at 12:12 am #220838I think I’m one of a very few who hasn’t watched Peaky Blinders. I’m just not into period dramas, I hate period dramas with a passion. I know there’s a bit more action in Peaky Blinders but it just doesn’t appeal. The only period drama I’ve watched is Poldark, and that’s only because it’s set in Cornwall, me and Mrs Joe have visited many of the filming locations.

Recently watched Reacher on prime and thought that was excellent. First show in ages where I’ve actually looked forward to watching the next episode.Prior to that I watched Yellowstone which I loved too. First series is a bit all over the place in terms of story but if you can get though that it’s worth it. Very brutal in places though so be warned.
What kind of shows do you like Jojoe?
May 6, 2023 at 11:39 am #220882@DBtruth I keep meaning to give Yellowstone a go but haven’t yet. I like lots of stuff, very into the Zombie genre, watched all series of Fear The Walking Dead though the last season was poor. I watched Walking Dead upto season 6 were it got a bit boring for me. I liked the horror series that Netflix did The Haunting Of Hill House and the follow up. Also like the Harlan Coben series of dramas as well.

May 6, 2023 at 1:43 pm #220891I’m not massively into zombie shows but did enjoy the walking dead. I got bored with it after a while too. Not actually sure how it kept going for so long.
i like loads of things but mainly cops and robbers, corruption, assassins, car chases, investigations type shows.
Only things I can think of that I’m not really into are Space and fantasy with dragons and goblins etc. Nothing against it but I know they don’t hold my interest
May 6, 2023 at 3:08 pm #220893I still enjoy watching some of the older ones like the livng dead, cabin in the woods etc!
Anyone into supernatural movies?
May 6, 2023 at 11:00 pm #220904
Jojoe@kezo if you’re into supernatural and have Netflix, The Haunting Of Hill House is 5 star. Lots of arm hair on end moments without the blood and gore of a slasher series.

@Joejo watched that a good while ago, nd yeh enjoyed them.
Do you have Disney+ if so how good is it? I’m thinking of paying for a month to watch “Prey” Predetor 5. Have watched the other 4 and didnt mind them. Don’t mind watching a mix of films 🙂
May 7, 2023 at 5:34 pm #220937@kezo Mrs Joe watches Disney but I’ve never tried it. We’ve got all of them including Apple but still struggle to find anything to watch. The quality of some of the Netflix output is very poor, they seem to throw a lot of money commissioning everything hoping for the odd winner, which means there’s a lot of dross.

June 21, 2023 at 9:49 pm #224042Still Game Series 1 – 6 ( only ) on Netflix
It may take an episode or 2 for anyone not Scottish to get up to speed with the patter and accents
but it’s absolutely Gold, and an institution up here
ps don’t bother with Series 7-9
( I just pretend they don’t exist )

Make melonade!June 25, 2023 at 10:33 am #224305Don’t have TV aerial or satellite dish connected so don’t watch UK tv channels or Sky. I do have Amazon Prime and access to my sons Netflix account.
Can’t find much of anything on Netflix to be honest, the occasional Netflix movie or true crime series.
Amazon Prime
DeadLoch – Australian comedy/detective series
Deadliest Catch – been watching that since it started
A few movies off the internet, re-watched The Illusionist last night, Hobson’s Choice and Seance on a wet afternoon for tonight ?
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
June 25, 2023 at 3:25 pm #224321@Phaedra I’ll assume as you have no aerial you don’t have a tv licence, but are you aware that although you can’t use the BBC iPlayer you can still use all the other freeview players as long as you only use catch up and don’t watch anything live.
The players include ITV, CH4, CH5 and UKTV, you can download apps or watch on line.

I love Still Game and have watched it from the start. One of the best was when Jack & Victor were in the tower block with a pair of binoculars, laughing whilst watching people slip on the ice.
