Just to say, having just come off the phone to Mota, for those that don’t know, your lease will be extended for a further six months due to Lockdown 2.

This may take the pressure off some, especially if like me your completely broke and need more time to raise an AP.
In addition, PLEASE check your MOT. Mine was due on the 25th having already being extended from the previous lockdown. The earliest I could find was an MOT on Dec 5th, HOWEVER, from the 25th – 5th the car could not be driven!
Even if you have an MOT booked, if it goes over the six month period, you CANNOT drive your car unless enroute to a pre-booked testing station.

Luckily I have managed to get a cancellation for next Monday at Kwik Fit so I’ll be good but it is something to remember and look out for. Check your dates!

Bottom line, those leases that are due to expire are to be extended for a further six months. Roll on Q1 or Q2, 2021!

      Which Mobility Car

This is excellent news, we are at the end of a two year extension on our WAV and this news could not have come at a better time. Thank you for posting.

            Mike,

As I read it in the latest update of Motability’s FAQ’s page, the extension is an option if you can’t order your next vehicle for some reason. If you can order your next vehicle as normal then you can go ahead and order it.

I am an existing customer. When can I place an application for my next car?

If you are in the final three months of your lease or have had your lease extended due to COVID-19 and you know which car you would like to place an application for, please contact your dealership and discuss whether they are able to place an application for you at this time.

For your peace of mind, and to ensure we continue to offer you worry-free motoring, if you haven’t placed a new order, or you don’t return your car on the date your lease is due to end, we will automatically extend your lease for six months, even if you have already had a lease extension due to the COVID situation. You will also automatically receive a Certificate of Motor Insurance or a temporary cover note from RSA Motability (RSAM) covering this six-month period. You can place a new order, or return your car, at any point during this six-month lease extension.

What about asking RSA for a rebate for lockdown 2, should we be pushing for this? Last time we got £50, should we not get something this time?

I’d be pretty miffed if they extended everyone’s leases for 6 months just because we are in lockdown for one month! I should think that for every person for whom that’s good news there would be ten for whom it would be bad news. Extending your lease though your own choice is fair enough (and very easy to do) but unless we go back to a full blown prolonged lockdown (like the one we had in the Spring) then I fully expect Motability to honour the contract that we entered into and change the car at 3 years.

LOL. For every 10 people that are happy, theirs always one that just very simply, can’t be pleased.

No one, not me, nor Motability is saying you CANNOT order a car. What they have done, however, for the DISABLED people who may indeed have Covid and WHO CAN’T get to a garage etc etc etc, very kindly extended their leases.

This gives opportunity for those who may have lost their jobs, and who are struggling with AP’s to have more time. My point is, take advantage if you need too, because right now in my particular circumstances I can’t afford £3k but by next Feb I’ll have it. Please don’t reply with a lecture of a car for purpose or a car suitable for needs or a car shouldn’t be sporty etc  Not interested in your negativity.

As for your contract, perhaps have a read at the section which explains that they actually can indeed, basically, do what they want. In addition, read the bit that states, “out of our control”.

Sometimes I just don’t know why I bother. Way to clicky this forum, way to clicky.

So have a smoke of that! Pfft

Oh dear. A bit touchy aren’t we? The first line of your post was factually incorrect. You said that “your lease will be extended by a further 6 months due to lockdown 2”. That is not the case. You have the option to extend. That is very different (although the option to extend a lease has always existed). I’m pleased that the option to do that helps you. You will never find me telling anyone that they shouldn’t have the car that they want, so please don’t label me incorrectly.
