Annual Service

Does anyone have their cars ‘collected’ when the dealership carries out an annual service?

After many years with the same manufacturer, I recently switched from Vauxhall to Toyota, both Vertu Motors dealerships. When I was with Vauxhall they always collected and returned my car free of charge. Toyota on the other hand are now asking for £48.50 for the same collection and delivery service.

My Toyota dealer say they need the car all day as there is a ‘Communication Module Reprogramming’ to do on the car and this means I cannot wait at the dealership.

@FiestaRed. If they require your car all day, then they should either provide a curtesy car for the day. If one is not available (given enough notice this should not be a problem.) Then they should either provide a solution such as, taxi at their expense to take you home and bring you back when your car is ready.

I would argue that previously. That they provided a car pick and return at no expense.

        From Motability web page

        While you wait
“Speak to your dealer. They’ll try to give you a courtesy car while yours is being serviced, if they can, but this is subject to availability.

If your dealer cannot do this or the courtesy car you’re given is not suitable for your needs, we’ll try to find a different solution for you. Your dealer will let you know what this might be”

Had this recently when a booked courtesy car was suddenly not available. Motability offered to arrange a taxi to take us home and collect us when car was ready.

Eventually took car to another dealer who could provide a loan car.

Just make sure all appointments at your current dealer are cancelled off the system if you go elsewhere.

You are under no obligation to use your supplying dealer for servicing

Had our VW serviced last week, turned up to find they’d sold the courtesy car the day before so the service manager gave me his car.

I wait with mine don’t take that long. First year service takes under an hour and 2 year service under 2 hours. My 2 year service was done in an hour and half that was including Brake Fluid change as well.

It’s good if you can wait in a lounge area as most dealers will have free WiFi and hot drinks but some people have complex disabilities and for them waiting may not be an option.

Things can crop up that significantly extend the wait time.

My annoyance with the dealer was that most non disabled people just assume everyone can wait or tootle off to the shops without thinking it through

Every car i’ve had they’ve offered to pick my car up which i’ve always taken.

My Mercedes is in for it’s MOT tomorrow, they put a Collect and Deliver charge (£20) on the worksheet, Motability have always paid it.

@CF21LEE As I mentioned in the original post, it’s not just a service this time, there’s also a recall for  ‘Communication Module Reprogramming’ too. Not much of a clue what that is and I’m told this takes about an hour and a half and can’t be done at the same time as the annual service.

That’s even worse charging you for a car if its a recall item as well.as I said motability will offer you a taxi both ways.you can arrange it via the live chat
