Hello everybody, I hope you’re all well. I have a question about the ABI grouping of cars. I’m interested in the A3 30 TFSI Sport S tronic, but it’s labeled as an ABI 17, which makes it unsuitable for drivers under 25. However, the previous model was ABI 15E, and the newer model should be ABI 16 after adding 6 brake horsepower to the car. They also labeled the TFSI35 as ABI 17, despite having 148 horsepower, which I find hard to believe should be in the same group as the slower model. Is there a way to discuss this with them and perhaps review the insurance grouping to lower it from 17 to 16? I only been using insurance websites to check the insurance group and some label the car as ABI 16 and some as 15E.
Thank You.

I just wanted to inform you the Audi A3 30 sport is available for those under 25 now if you’re still interested 🙂 I already called my dealer and made an appointment for next week, he said worst case scenario the car will be delivered in January.
This is great news! I was wondering would S Line be joining under 25 too? either way great for it to be back
August 7, 2024 at 5:52 am #286369Its been there for a week or so but only the auto version (which will suit a lot of people), there is not a great deal of difference between Sport and SLine versions. In fact the sport has softer suspension which could be better for most. I guess if someone wants the badge and trim thats the main difference (previously the advance payment was very similar for both models).
Previously advance payment was around £2200 now its £3200 for the Sport!!

August 7, 2024 at 3:35 pm #286420yeah honestly the sport version in my opinion is better for its more comfortable suspension, the only downside for me is it doesn’t include tints which is fine I will call motability and install one on the car. amazing car and it’s packed with so many features so I don’t mind the ap for it plus I got the 750 quid from Motability.
They also told me that I could have the technology pack if I wanted to but no thanks I don’t fancy spending 5k on a matrix headlight and sunroof haha.August 7, 2024 at 5:34 pm #286426I have just looked at the Motability car website and it is still confirming that the A3 30TFSi is not available for drivers under 25.
If what your saying is correct then could it be safely assumed that the A1 30TFSi is available for drivers 25 and under? I have had a VW Polo on order for 8 months and it appears to have been lost at the UK port for 2 months, so am considering the A1 30TFSi Black Edition if it is elegible for drivers 25 and under.

Just search by ticking the ‘Under 25’ filter and selecting Audi in the manufacturers. Both A1 and the A3 Sport Auto are available. With regards to A1 just select that model and it will show which versions are available. As per the previous posts only the Sport is available in A3
Try this link (hopefully it will work) – https://www.motability.co.uk/find-a-vehicle/cars/search-results/#sort=%40advancepaymentnumeric%20ascending%3B%40weeklyrentalnumeric%20ascending&f:@awardType=%5BPIP%5D&f:@makeName=%5BAudi%5D&f:@suitableforyoungdriver=%5B1%5D

I always presumed that car performance was the main factor in determining the ABI group of a car and not the trim level?
Given the A1 30TFSi Black Edition is a smaller and cheaper car than the A3 30TFSi Sport I am failing to understand why the A1 is group 17 and the A3 is group 16 even though they share the same engine?!

If only it were as straight forward as that, who knows the reasons why some models become available and some not, it could be as simple as supply and demand. With regard to insurance groups, that is also a dark art but the A1 with same engine as A3 will be a whole lot quicker!!! and possibly driven by younger people. Yep it does not seem fair but its just stats rather than opinion which sort the groups

August 7, 2024 at 8:17 pm #286435Yeah, the whole under 25 thing just makes no sense anyways, a 25 year old driver with 1 year of driving experience is not safer than a 23 year old with 5 years of driving experience xd.

I was deciding whether I should wait to see if the SLine will join the under 25s or just go with the Sport. However, I have a feeling it might not join the under 25s. It’s funny how the ABI grouping for the SLine is two groups higher (Group 18) than the Sport (Group 16), even though the difference is just a sharper looking car. And a £1000 increase on the AP is shocking!

Also, I forgot to ask but if you’re comfortable telling me. How much are you spending in total for your order including additional stuff? And I was wondering if there were any other packs available other than the £5K one. Would appreciate it, good luck with ordering if you haven’t already!
