At the weekend I viewed a Mercedes B class with my local Mercedes dealership in Milton Keynes. I went there as I found that Wakefield Mercedes were offering £1000 discounts off some of their cars. Funny enough the CLA was also on offer with the same discount. I wonder if that was part of the reason for buying the Mercedes? It certainly was with me.
I telephoned Wakefield to make sure the offer was genuine. The salesman confirmed that it was, however he needed a £500 deposit. He told me I could do the paperwork via email to save me having to travel up until I collected the car. I know this is regarded as distance selling but I did the exact same thing with my current car in Enfield 3 years ago.
I had not test drove the car so booked an appointment with Mercedes Milton Keynes. After the test drive I mentioned the £1000 discount Mercedes Wakefield was offering. At first the salesman said no but he would check. He was away about 10 mins and came back and said that the offer would be matched. However, and this is the reason for my reply, he ALSO asked for a £500 deposit.I was offered the same deal by 2 different Mercedes dealerships both asking for a £500 deposit.
However I think if I was asked for an additional £500 – first I would inform motability and then I would get a second opinion from another Mercedes dealership offering the same deal.
