I think it varies by dealer/brand sometimes – Skoda and Seat both told me there was no charge for any colour (although Seat doesn’t charge ANYONE for colour so that doesn’t mean much). When I got my Volvo 3 years ago that dealer also told me there was no charge for the colour (and he actually said that Motability insist on Metallics being free as they help future value) but when I enquired about the Tiguan Allspace in Haberno Orange, I was told it was a £1000 option.
I THINK (don’t quote me on this) that you CAN get most metallic or solid colours at no charge but the dealers do still charge extra for the Special Edition or high Pearls. Then again it might be 100% down to how recently the other half took care of business when you’re sitting across from the dealer…
