Got to say, the Compass is a big heavy lump to be powered by a 1.4 petrol. I think you would become intimately acquainted with the staff at your local petrol station!
Most of the journo’s reviews go for the diesel powered options.
I sat in one at the Jeep dealers and was reasonably impressed at first glance. However upon looking closer, the trim was mis-matched in parts, a few interior panels were badly fitted – one under the steering column even fell off – and this was in the static demo in the dealer’s showroom! I think the Quality Control on them (made in India) leaves a lot to be desired.
However, if one wanted a reasonably priced medium to large SUV with a rugged ‘go anywhere’ 4WD system (as opposed to some of the part time AWD systems on most SUV’s) this would be a decent option, particularly in its ‘Trailhawk’ guise.
