mpg, the newer figures are true, those with diesels wont see the real mpg until about 5000 miles, even modern diesels need to be broke in, the so called eco engines 1.5 petrols and 1.6 petrols are the worst in heavy cars. There is no were near the claimed MPG, those with bmw 2.0D (the tune is the same unless it says 25 in the name, all the 2.0D in bmw are exactly the same regardless of xdrive or not and also model trim (bit of an expert with bmws, so much so I have coded all of the ones I had to activate extra paid features). in a 2.0D if your getting under 48mpg trying to be eco, I would have to say you just have a lead foot :P, if in the x1 25 xdrive (which does have a higher tune) and getting less that 42 then you 100% have got a osmium foot (osmium is a metal that is that is more dense than any other and 1 once of it would be half the size of 1 oz of lead lol)… Although I will say if you are under 5000 miles in any diesel just be patient with it, it will improve.
