you can use the trickle charger in a normal 3 pin socket but its slow and there have been cases where people living in terraced houses parking even directly outside the house have been pulled up by the council for running cables over the pavement. and of course snotty neighbours objecting etc even when people have used the proper cable covers and h&s signs etc.
