I’ve seen Asda and Morrisons near me both be out of diesel at the same time a few times over the years, nothing to do with shortages they just ran out before the next delivery. I was once filling up with unleaded when the pump ran dry. These things just happen.

That can’t happen Jojoe. Petrol stations shut off their tanks at a predetermined level, usually 3500 litres. With diesel it’s a little lower, maybe 2500 litres if there’s a national shortage. More likely the pump you were using was faulty and cut out. Speaking from experience as I work in a Sainsbury’s petrol station. Can you imagine the problems if all that sediment was to be pumped into customers’ tanks? Tanks get cleaned of any sediment every 6 months.

Definitely happened, it was my first car in the late 1980’s. I’m convinced it ran out as it started spluttering. Maybe they didn’t cut the pumps off in the 1980’s.
