Well its only 18 days to the next quarter are we going to see an AP increase to offset the dreaded July quarter, my window opens on the 9th May 2026 or I could wait until 10th August 2027 by then the dust would have settled.

@oscarmax Did you really mean August 2027 or should that be August 2026? I would hopefully expect ‘the dust would have settled’ by the former, not necessarily the latter! Bearing in mind the VAT on AP’s and Insurance Premium Tax takes effect on Motability vehicles ordered on or after 1st July 2026, you may well be better served ordering prior to this date (unless you really want to fund Rachel from Accounts with some VAT). Obviously there is the chance of the AP on a specific vehicle coming down on 1st July (start of Q3) but that’s the usual gamble.

Dave due to exceptional circumstances we have been offered a conditional 12 month extension, not sure whether to order in the April quarter or use the extension and sit it out until August 2027. One alternative is to sell off the touring caravan next year, on the 10th August 2027 walk away from the scheme, as we will no longer be towing our mileage will have dropped from 8,000 to about 5,000 miles a year, we could buy a secondhand Nissan Leaf or similar EV and avoid all this hassle.

Right. With a potential 15 month order window due to your lease extension, it really is down to you.

As previously stated, VAT (on AP and Insurance Premium Tax) is due to be added onto Motability scheme pricing from 1st July 2026.

As @glos-guy has stated, pricing is generally on an upward trajectory, so that does point to ordering sooner rather than post 1st July.

Unless you have a crystal ball or can read tea leaves, future pricing beyond 1st July is uncertain. There may be a degree of absorption of the VAT increase, but to what extent no one knows.

Likewise no one knows what vehicles may come on or go off the scheme in your 15 month window. Something may appear that could blow the socks off current offerings.

However, for a bit of certainty, if there is something that takes your eye and is at the right price on the scheme now, it could be worthwhile ordering asap.

Or, as you say, leaving the scheme could be your best option. It depends if you do get rid of your caravan and your anticipated future usage etc.

It really is down to you.
