Manufacturers rely on the fact the vast majority will now have a subscription for a music streaming service so they no longer need to have an mp3 decoder wrapped up in their infotainment system. A car that doesn’t have a USB input to that system does seem a little strange, some won’t want to have CarPlay or AA to run their phone from the car.
When considering how much of a problem this is depends upon just how much you actually listen to music in the car and whether there’s a radio station that’ll do you for your travels.
