here we are awake at 5am again lol. unable to sleep so trawling through the suv sized options and previous cars considered.
the renault symbioz esprit alpine has reduced in price to 393 wpms. thats the middle option but gives you electric seats and tailgate heated seats and steering wheel so all the nice to haves and a decent mpg. the drawback was the door entry shape i want to recheck and see if i can find a comfortable wa in/out.
the cupra formentor v2 has gone down to £343 and was a suprise comfortable sit test, v2 gives you all the nice to haves as well. its drawback is the 40mpg which given the plunge in my mileage isnt a deal breaker now as i cant see my mileage increasing unless you know jobs going for a 66 year old. i do like the styling i know its a bit marmite.
the quashqai 1.5 e-power n-connector £347 wpms, ap has remained pretty steady the last couple of quarters it lacks some of the nice to haves heated stuff for winter.but is a nice place to sit.
the mg zs and hs trophy are the bargain pricewise they have all the kit but there was just something about the cockpit that didnt click hopefully the test drives on the 24th will put that to bed.
citroen c3 aircross max the ap went up to £627 so is above what i am comfortable with but the cockpit and test drive comfort keep it on my list along with the budget option of the c3.
mini countryman electric monochrome remains on the list as the sit test was so good like putting on old slippers lol. just a question of can i get my head around the charging. and the 0ap is very tempting.
i am going to go to chesterfield at 10.30 as most of these dealers are on the same street.
ive booked mini and mg test drives so will do the same for the others and see if there are any deals to be had.
sensible head says one of the hybrids but the mini and the cupra were nice places to sit and are tempting.
i may even risk waiting to see if the citroens come down next quarter, being very selfish i could order something this quarter and change next if prices come down although i am not too comfortable with that.

February 8, 2026 at 12:47 pm #337574Thinking out of the box as another option
Skoda Enyak SEL £77
Heated front seats & steering wheel
Electric boot with Virtual pedal
Heated front seats
Heat-insulating glass windshield
Enyak Suite £297
Cognac leather
Electric seats I think
I find Skoda’s site confusing so @Jojoe @Phaedra are best on what Suite gets

February 8, 2026 at 12:59 pm #337576The “Suite” upgrade is just a higher quality material on the same seats. It’s the Plus Pack that takes the SE L to Edition levels.
It’s in a different league to the other cars in terms of size. I found driving the Enyaq as feeling very safe in it. It’s one of those cars that doesn’t encourage you to push the boundaries or whoosh around country lanes but it’s great for just pounding away the miles incredibly easily. While excitement may be missing, it’s well specced from the base model and even the 60 is capable of a decent distance between charges.
Real Range Estimation between 160 – 325 mi
City – Cold Weather *. 215 mi
Highway – Cold Weather *. 160 mi
Combined – Cold Weather *. 185 mi
City – Mild Weather *. 325 mi
Highway – Mild Weather *. 205 mi
Combined – Mild Weather *. 255 miThe Enyaq 60 charges at 165 kW which is considerably more than anything else on the list. I’d be happy with half an hour charging in that.

This indeed is the Edition, you need a few pages earlier for the SE L. The SEL with the Plus pack is pretty much the Edition spec for a massive saving. In this spec, it’s hard to beat in terms of a large BEV with that much equipment. It’s a similar AP to the Leapmotor C10 but charges significantly quicker into a bigger battery (85) without the whole Stellantis thing. Better equipped than the Ariya for less upfront and bigger than the much cheaper B10.
I’ll have a look when I’m on the PC later but the documentation isn’t the easiest to follow.

February 8, 2026 at 1:46 pm #337583Ignore the Enyak, it doesn’t come with a granny charger as standard (extra cost on AP))
February 8, 2026 at 1:50 pm #337584When you say pretty much it is the edition spec what differences could you find ?
I found different style wheel but same 19 inch size. Also some trim around windows etc but only on the 60. Not the 85.
I couldn’t find any others did you ?

For me, having the Loft design isn’t horrendous, £600 to upgrade to leather seem to be quite an outlay for not a huge change.
In terms of @mitch’s requirements at this spec we have heated front seats and steering wheel, electric boot hatch including the wavey foot trigger and the rear view camera plus the driver’s information is actually infront of the driver.

February 8, 2026 at 3:44 pm #337592So what do you get by having SEL £77 and adding Suite pack for £220 more (£297) add nothing more than interior material change isn’t worth the extra outlay over the the SEL?
Theres also the Toyota Urban Cruiser Design £0 AP £81.46 per week but, similar size to ec3 city car (nicer inside though imo) not brilliant range with small 61kWh battery
- front wiper de-icer
- heated front seats & steering wheel
- electric drivers seat
- Panramic view monitor (360 camera?)

The Loft design is perfectly adequate, if you are quite heavy on the materials then leather would be better protection and I’d definitely consider the upgrade if I had young children likely to try and destroy material seats. At £220 it’s better value than the £600 for PIP but I’d not be laying out that extra just for the fun of it. The Plus Pack, though, makes it a really well equipped car given it adds:
Full LED Matrix beam headlights with variable light distribution.
Dynamic headlight range control with cornering light function and integrated fog light with all-weather function.
Rear LED lights with animated indicators.
Rear side airbags.
Electrically adjustable drivers seat with memory function, massage function and power adjustable lumbar support.
Manual blinds for the rear windows.
Memory function for door mirrors. That’s an incredible £597 for mitch without the suite design which means it’s a £520 addition for a £2,500 pack, that’d be hard not to consider if that money is available, just for electric seats with memory and massage functions and LED Matrix headlights it’d be worth £500 of anyone’s money.

February 8, 2026 at 4:15 pm #337596wow, i think it just shows the nightmare of cars now with stuff wrapped up in packs rather than just having different spec models. so you can get an sel specced as high as the next one up by adding packs cheaper than the next model up !!!!!!!!!!!!! strange. i would consider the pack upgrade for the seats but the suite only to get the brown leather as not a huge fan of black cabins. i had the cream/grey leather in my previous minis.
however been running through the house of cars video and although the seats are manual they are in the mini too so the losses in the gt being removed arent deal breakers so i think its still a 2 horse race.
February 8, 2026 at 5:11 pm #337605European cars are a nightmare with optional packs compared to those from Asia.

The Suite option adds the Design Suite Cognac/Black (Leather) with vented front seats.
I have ASD and thus have difficulty with social and understanding information, written and verbal. I process information in logical blocks, before I reply. Sometimes I'm right and sometimes I'm wrong.
I also have a corneal visual condition, which makes me visually impaired without daytime, or daytime bulbs, among other disabilities/conditions.February 11, 2026 at 1:32 pm #337770ok had a 3 hour test drive in the mini countryman and i loved it, no problems using the circular info screen even on the move. the sat nave is excellant and it was very comfortable.
the only issue and maybe deal breaker you cannot play music from a usb. the only ports it has are for charging only.
now i know i am a dinosaur but i dont use my phone for anything other than phone calls and texts. the only apps i have are those forced on me for internet banking etc.
anyone know of a work around that wont cost me some sort of subscription etc?
seems a bonkers reason to have to ditch an option lol.
February 11, 2026 at 10:36 pm #337784Manufacturers rely on the fact the vast majority will now have a subscription for a music streaming service so they no longer need to have an mp3 decoder wrapped up in their infotainment system. A car that doesn’t have a USB input to that system does seem a little strange, some won’t want to have CarPlay or AA to run their phone from the car.
When considering how much of a problem this is depends upon just how much you actually listen to music in the car and whether there’s a radio station that’ll do you for your travels.

February 12, 2026 at 6:34 am #337785unfortunately its the only way i listen to music in the car so it is a big deal.
at least the ev4 has the option so by default we have a winner yeh.
what are the issues i am reading elsewhere with kias not charging on home chargers etc??
would that affect granny chargers?
February 12, 2026 at 8:27 am #337789Looking around charging at 7.4kW is where the issue is, and charging at 6kWh alows it, you are out of this range and charging at 2.4kWh. Kia have been rolling out updates to fix it however, there is no evidence the EV4 has the proplem anyway.
February 12, 2026 at 10:54 am #337796As kezo said, it’s a problem currently only seen in the EV3 and only then when charging at the full 7.4kW. You’ll get nowhere near that speed of charge at home. You’ll need to set the speed of charge to max at 6.6kW when/if you charge at a destination charger but you’ll be absolutely fine if you charge at a fast/rapid charger.
If usb is your only source of music, that could be problematic for the Mini. The only solution that springs to mind is if you have Amazon Prime for deliveries, that comes with a music subscription as well as the TV one. It’s not ideal but it’s marginally better than going without.
