Do you suppose the premium brands will club together and form their own offshoot of Motability? Might be the unintended consequence.
It would be great if they could, but they won’t be able to offer VAT exemption (other than to full time wheelchair users buying new), which is what gives Motability it’s competitive advantage. Perhaps a more likely option would be for dealers to offer additional discounts to those in receipt of qualifying benefits, but that might be seen as going against the spirit of what the government is trying to achieve, so might get them into hot water. I know a Motability specialist at a BMW dealership very well, having bought several cars from them (private and Motability), so I’m planning on calling in for a chat in the New Year to see what’s on the table.
