Luxury cars removed from Motability scheme ahead of budget
Luxury cars will no longer be available for Motabiltiy recipients, it has been announced, with the government saying more money will also go to British manufacturers under changes.
The announcement comes just days ahead of the budget, although it does not appear that the announcement will have any change to government finances.

Im not sure I’d call a 1 series or a an Audi A1 a luxury car. But hey ho, any excuse to bash the disabled, I suppose.
Maybe a 7 series, A8 or S class. The days of mercs and Beemers as luxury cars went when they decided to sell mass market cars built in Eastern European countries
November 27, 2025 at 3:52 pm #318358As I worked in tge Automotive industry, the car companies that manufacture in the UK are Nissan Mini Toyota JLR Aston Martin Lotus Mclaren Rolls Royce Bentley Morgan Possibly TVR, but unknown at the moment
Don’t Honda build the Civic at Swindon?
November 27, 2025 at 3:54 pm #318359All the premium manufacturers are now shaded out on the Motability website car search, so can’t be selected. Thought for the day. Will Volvo (who have long aspired to be considered a premium brand) be happy that their cars remain, or unhappy that they aren’t deemed by Motability (or the government- depending on whose pulling the strings) to be a premium brand? 😂

Volvo aren’t but Alfa Romeo are. That must be a kick in the teeth for Volvo

November 27, 2025 at 4:15 pm #318364Reading some others comments and no wanting or intending to be political in fact far from it as its already bad enough always being used as a disabled political pawn as it is
I humbly suggest that before anyone worries about Reform getting in imo they need to keep in mind that this Budgets outcome will imo pale into insignificance once Timms is fully under the spotlight and then we will get to see imo behind the ill fitting mask
The words that come to my mind when thinking about the Timms review and how I see the possible outcome are many
For what it is worth here are just a few
Predermined outcome/cut costs at any costs/pretence/gagging clauses/pretence of engagment/zero constructive inclusion/sudden change to remit to inc exsisting claimants /Future PIP Daily living eligibility criteria changes for new and on review exsisting claimants/Future PIP daily living amount reductions for new and on review exsisting claimants/MPs soon having to return backers favor
Best not worry about Reform just yet imo not while Timms is still in the room
November 27, 2025 at 6:44 pm #318376We’ve just received an “urgent” email from our BMW dealer. It’s one generated by BMW UK tailored to the dealership;
“We want to make you aware of an important UK Government decision that affects the Motability Scheme. From close of play this Saturday 29th November 2025, premium brands – including BMW – will no longer be available on the scheme.
If you are eligible and wish to order a new BMW through Motability to replace a vehicle coming up for change at the end of this year or early part of next year, you must place your order before this deadline. Our team is ready to assist you with any questions and help secure your BMW before the cut-off.”

November 27, 2025 at 9:22 pm #318387OMG !!!
I wish I had bought that Bentley Continental Soft Top in Damask with Pearl Leather seating 🙁 🙁 🙁
November 27, 2025 at 11:05 pm #318391I remember the stupid biased and ill informed Richard Littlejohn piece in the Daily Mail a dozen years ago where he alleged most Motability users were blokes driving around in their elderly mums Range Rovers ! Motability reacted by dramatically decreasing their car numbers from 4000+ to a fraction of that rather than defending their customers .
Today we have less than 900 cars, what choice is that?
Most cars are either city cars or small – medium types … totally useless to lots of their customers. Motability is NOT on our side.
My next lease will be private – UP YOURS MOTABILITY !!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, feel your pain although I would set my sights lower at just a run around M3/M5. Unfortunate as it is to lose some choice of vehicles I look forward to the updates from the departing BMW fanboys and their private purchases/leases journey.
November 28, 2025 at 12:55 am #318399Do you suppose the premium brands will club together and form their own offshoot of Motability? Might be the unintended consequence.

It would be great if they could, but they won’t be able to offer VAT exemption (other than to full time wheelchair users buying new), which is what gives Motability it’s competitive advantage. Perhaps a more likely option would be for dealers to offer additional discounts to those in receipt of qualifying benefits, but that might be seen as going against the spirit of what the government is trying to achieve, so might get them into hot water. I know a Motability specialist at a BMW dealership very well, having bought several cars from them (private and Motability), so I’m planning on calling in for a chat in the New Year to see what’s on the table.

November 28, 2025 at 9:33 am #318423I see the Enyak coupe has been removed, even though it’s not what I would call a coupe.
That means the ID5 is next then.

That could be interesting.

November 28, 2025 at 8:14 pm #318573I’m surprised to NOT hear that ‘breach of contract’ has occurred between Motability and the dealers.
Surely they can’t just cut them out at a stroke, given the financial commitment the dealers must have incurred to be able to offer Motability cars in the first place.
