One point I missed earlier is the change of message. 18 months ago the EV message was clearly a push to 2030 with the new government reinstating that from the 2035 deadline.
Now, it seems there’s no clear message. There’s the up to £3500 grant but you’ll have to pay per mile, which will be seen as an extra tax rather than simply replacing fuel duty.
Without clear messaging from the government and with a lot of propaganda from the oil companies and other opponents, EV sales will mostly remain within those simply renewing their last EV plus a few persuaded extra individuals. None of that will make 2030 possible.
