Currently we surrender £335/month for the cars. Motability does offer the cheapest option. You can get something very different on leasing, you pay not a lot more for some good vehicles. The thing is…motability will always be there….so why not go off track and get a shiny new toy for a while, it wont break your bank.
I agree that Motability will always be the cheapest leasing option due to the block VAT exemption, which is brilliant if you can find a car that ticks every box for you (which, sadly, I can’t any more). Don’t forget the AP on top of the sacrificed benefits though.
If we move away from the scheme I will be buying outright, not leasing, and I would most likely buy a used car, not a brand new one, although we can get VAT exemption if we buy new.
As you say, we can always move back to Motability if things improve, but I don’t hold out any hope, unless we decide that we want an EV and one that appeals comes onto the scheme. Getting an EV through Motability takes all the risks away, whereas buying one privately presents all sorts of issues and I would steer well clear of that minefield!
