That’s the big draw from claiming, your NI stamp gets paid even if it’s all they give you.
I’ve been contracting for nearly 2 decades, although I’m more medically disabled than employable now, and have been in and out of claiming benefits for all those years. It’s a system that works solely as a ticked box exercise. It’s a very binary system, you either pass that question or you don’t, and that doesn’t flex for some very simple cases. If you effectively retire 6 weeks after becoming redundant, unfortunately the system states you must go through the UC or JSA route until you retire. The fact it may take longer to process is irrelevant to that binary set of controls.
I’ve had to sign on for 9 days because I left a role on Friday having secured a new role after a week’s rest. It took me more time to get and return the paperwork than to actually be out of work.
