I never use the heads up cause can’t see it with my sunglasses on, wife loves it and was something she insisted on in her own car
Whats glasses/coating have you got? Never had a problem with Serengeti polarised drivers lens.
Doesn’t matter.
Polarised glasses will block a normal (reflecting off of the windscreen) HUD. No ifs, or buts.
Bit more swurbly explanation: if you can see the HUD, you can see any reflection/glare from that direction. There’s no “distance” to polarisation, just direction.
Now, there are “driving glasses”, which are basically mis-adjusted polarised lenses (allowing you to see a HUD, albeit at reduced brightness) – which work by rotating the lens, so they do not filter horizontally polarised lights completely. Easy to check for that: look at a HUD (or screen in a similar position) and tilt your head. If it becomes darker (in one direction), they’re rotated. If it doesn’t change, they’re not polarised at all.
I went through this horse manure with the Golf (HUD out of pocket, so had to make sure i see it lol) – it’s all marketing bollocks. You either get properly polarised glasses and you can’t see the HUD, or they’re not properly polarised glasses – only reducing (as opposed to removing) reflections from the road.
I opted for normal sunglasses instead in the beginning – and ended up simply not using the HUD anyway.
As for Sat Nav..
Drove to Swindon two days ago. I’m convinced it made an actual effort finding the smallest, most green lane alike routes to the motorway, making sure i was drenched in sweat before i even made it the 15 miles to the M4. Turns out that driving an aircraft carrier through a brook is.. “exciting”, particularly with oncoming traffic.
It also couldn’t find its way to Cardiff Central Station parking lot, left me stranded at some kind of bus depot roughly half a mile away (or turnaround for busses or something, smack bang in central Cardiff), had to google maps the rest of the way.
But, in fairness: i had two map updates since, so it potentially has been fixed. I’ll be driving another 160ish miles tomorrow to Gurney Slade and back (including a stop at Cardiff Central Station parking lot), i’ll come to a conclusion after that drive. Particularly the location in Gurney Slade (Southern Scale Trail) looks rather tricky, so it’ll be a good test.
Otherwise, i’ll do it like Rhodgie, drive Google Maps where i can, and “internal” Sat Nav to charging stations (to pre-condition the battery before arrival).
I will say: the trip to Swindon and back left me with a sore back and bum (roughly 4-5 hour trip). I did try to adjust the position since then, so i’ll see if that helped, tomorrow (it’s not bad on shorter journeys). I’ve not given up on the seats yet, i do think they can be comfy, it’s just that my long legs require a bit of faffing to be comfortable (currently hitting the bottom of the gear stalk when braking), and i somehow need to get my shoulders further back into the backrest. Not a deal breaker, the lady of the house is supremely comfortable, that’s what counts.
Fun fact, never seen an Ioniq 6 on the road prior to “owning” it. Now:

Basically see multiple ones, every day lol.
Prior: SEAT Ateca Xcellence Lux 1.5 TSI DSG MY19, VW Golf GTE PHEV DSG MY23
Current: Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate
Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.
