I have 3 autoglym products and usually get away with a hands free wash.  I start with their Snow foam, spray on from the pressure washer and was off after a few minutes.  Then there’s a more direct cleaner that will remove any more stubborn grime.  If you’ve neglected the car for a while or it’s been somewhere particularly dirty you may need to wipe the body work at this stage, just to ensure all the grime has gone.  Then they have a water repellent spray.  It literally goes on the pressure washer, you put a layer over the whole car and can see it working when you rinse it off.

Chrome North West do a fantastic traffic film remover, it’s potent stuff so you can dilute it quite severely unless the car’s a proper mess.  Again I’ve used that instead of the normal shampoo stage and I’ve not had to wipe the car.  If it’s properly minging, just apply a relatively strong mix and it’ll take off just about anything.  If there’s something stubborn, just put the jet closer and it’ll remove what’s refusing to go.
