The comments on the sound system are concerning. While it won’t be a significant factor in making the final choice, I got used to installing hi fi grade audio into the car. The Ioniq 5 is bearable at best after a bit of tweaking but ‘aneamic’ is worrying. It’s the sort of thing where I’d be looking at replacing stock with upgraded speakers in place but I doubt we’d get away with that even if everything else is as supplied.

The location of the thunder box (sub) doesn’t help, being buried in polystyrene under the boot with no outward facing grill and measly 5″ in diameter. Interestingly the Canton in the Elroq has a 675w vs Enyaks 635w https://www.canton.de/en/partner/automotive/

That’s an increase by around 6%, don’t think that in particular makes a world of difference?

The layout does seem reasonably sensible (7″ bass speakers in the front doors, 7″ mid-bass speakers in rear doors, subwoofer in trunk etc).

TotallyEV apparently has a youtube video on the Elroqs Canton system, and he does say that generally speaking, the sub is decent enough for most people – but it is lacking compared to “actual high end” systems.

For those interested. I mean.. It’s not a deal breaker either way, i’m not a connoisseur of classic music – i just like rock music to sound like rock music, not like it’s played in the cinema behind me from Brads phone on loudspeaker. As long as it does that reasonably well.. Happy days. We’ll see how that goes.

The EQ at least does seem comprehensive on the Canton system as opposed to stock.
