@Glos Guy What you’re saying makes sense. I was looking at it from the question posed by the OP, not NF170’s post which I agree could be taken both ways. I believe the NCD should be based solely on the driver’s history. The driver is the risk so I think anyone who is lucky enough to be able to have a second car shouldn’t be penalised for it. However, insurance companies are a bit of a cartel and seek out every opportunity to pad our premiums. Cheers 🍻.
Thanks for clarifying Peter. It’s a minefield and I suspect that different insurance companies may take different views on these things. As we know, if people leave the scheme, most insurers will now honour NCD on a new or used private purchase (or lease). Equally, there are thousands of people who have more than one car (away from the scheme) and they will have multi-car policies where their NCD applies to all the cars. I guess that the only way find out whether an insurer will allow the no claims history accumulated on a Motability car can be applied to a private car at the same time is to phone a few of them and ask. As you say, NCD is based on the drivers history, so you’d think it would be possible, but answers may vary wildly by insurer.
