PHEV’s tend to work on the basis of aDC to DC converter to charge the 12v battery and will start the engine if the battery drops below a certain %. Hybrids have a starter generator, which act to charge the 12v from the generator side, plus they spend less time in electric mode so the engine is frequently running. Driving frequent short journey’s isn’t really good for any 12v car battery.
