I do worry, this feels different to 1999 when Renault bailed them out, or the times the UK government stepped in to keep the workforce in Sunderland, the whole industry is suffering. I believe 6000 jobs at Nissan Sunderland and 20 000 associated jobs in the area. Having spoken to Nissan Employees directly, the focus has been taken off their pay negotiations, there is real worry in the ranks. The Nissan CFO has quit and there are talks of Honda stepping in, sounds like paper talk to me. I fear there are just too many obstacles in the way, the collapse of Northvolt has just handed all the power (excuse the pun) to China. Change is coming and it may be quicker than we would hope.
