Unfortunately not Kezo although the heat pump is working really well so its not all bad news. I must admit though there has been no plain sailing with this experience and its not just down to timing issues. At the start of the process with this company, and all the others, I made it clear I wanted my fuse box replaced as its decades old. My quote stated Electrical Pack (including Upgraded Consumer Unit) £907. I assumed this was the new fuse box, but no, they are saying they didn’t price a new fuse box, this is for a small unit that is for the air source heat pump and solar. They say they never intended replacing the existing fuse box. I have nothing in writing for this so its impossible to prove what I said but I know the owner, who I dealt with, knew I wanted a new fuse box as I spoke to home about how old it was and how it wasn’t up to code with no RCD. He is denying this so don’t think there’s much I can do. I don’t know how much a replacement fuse box would cost but they are saying the very fact there is only £900 allowed for the work on the quote shows a new fuse box was never priced for. Putting all that aside I am nearly there and of course I still have to pay him, or do I
Oh mate really sorry to hear this . You know what you asked for and to me it sounds very much what you should be expecting.
Electrical pack includes all the needs for the heatpump/solar install, with an added upgraded consumer unit installation.
There are regs they must go by, when installing new equipment and it shall meet the latest 18th edition Ammend 3, so there is nothing requiring upgrades where the solar/heatpump is concerned, because it needs to meet the latest specs from the off and certainly no upgrades worth £900, other than installing a new house consumer unit. Even for this wotk £900 sounds expensive, especially if you were given a seperate labour £ on the invoice!
Your existing (Wylex) BS3036 rewireable fuse board, technically there’s nothing in principle wrong with BS 3036 fuses, as they’re still specifically listed as acceptable in the lates wiring regulations. However lack of 30mA RCD protection, would see me marking a EICR (inspection test report), as a C3 or C2 depending on whether any of the sockets are being used for outside stuff.
If the company isn’t going to install a new consumer unit and I would question and request an itemised bill for what exactly the £900 includes. After they have gone we can talk more on your old fuse box and the potential of getting a local spark, who won’t rip you off.
When they have finished the complete install, you need to ensure you get a “new electrical circuit installation certificate covering all the work they have done, including a gas safety certificate, if they have messed with the gas. You also need to ensure, that they notify building control, of the new works they have carried out, in which you will receive a certicate from building control (scottish version). If they don’t issue certificates it could come back on you in the future not them! This a the momment is more important than your consumer unit.
I’m happy, if you want, to look over your quote (i’m sure @wmcforum will email it as a one off in this case) for any decrepencies in which you should question.
Remember MCS is the body and could be your (2nd) friend here.
Please don’t give them any more work, at extra cost.
