Ah Stuart A, that takes me back a bit… in 1991 I paid £800 for a basic 3 door automatic Astra, the manual version was zero. It didn’t even have a clock and for some reason this really bothered me so I paid £15 for a clock and another £15 to the garage to fit it 🤷♂️ don’t know why as I didn’t need it but my head was a bit messed up then. It also cost me another £450 for push/pull hand controls. So as a wheelchair user we were doubly punished by the excessive AP (still relevant today) and having to pay for hand controls 😡
I saved up £3k for my next deposit in 1994 (Rover 216GSi I think?) when I thought sod this and went private for the 20 years.
The scheme isn’t perfect these days but as Harold Macmillan said “you’ve never had it so good” 😂😂
It’ll be interesting to see how things are in another 30 years 🤔
