Just looking to pick the brains of anyone using ovo charge anytime.Do you know in advance which time slots are available for cheap charging at least 24 hours in advance ? What are you paying for peak rate electricity at the moment and is that figure higher than ovo peak rate if you don’t have ev charging ? (from October 1st I mean).I know it varies by region but that’s ok.Do you have to leave your car plugged in most of the time to get the cheap rate ? Thankyou in advance.

Up until a few weeks ago I was with OVO. They say that Anytime Charging is available 24/7, with no pre-determined charging slots, but I just used to plug the car in about 10pm, set the time in the app at 05.00am for the car to be ready, and it would start charging shortly thereafter. The in-car timed-schedule wouldn’t be active, it was all controlled by the charger-app and Kaluza, and it worked just fine.

I was paying 21.42p per kWh for all the electricity I used, OVO charged me for that and they would then work out how much electricity was used to charge the car, at 7p per kWh, and rebate me the 14.42p per kWh difference in to my account the following month.

Once you’ve set up the timer in the Indra app (I’ve got an Indra charger and I’m guessing it’s the same for Ohme, etc), then I looked upon it as a dumb-charger that I just plugged in at 10pm – it worked for me 👍 According to their blurb, you just set the timer in the app for when you want the car to be ready, plug it in whenever, and it’ll be ready by the time set (Kaluza take control), at least that’s my understanding of it…, but I just plugged it in after peak-usage on the grid and charged it overnight.

Basically, OVO have one tariff for all 24/7 usage and they offer the Anytime ev deal as something that’s bolted-on to the original tariff. Far simpler than Octopus’s smorgasbord of tariffs, in my opinion 😁
