Hi, thanks for the prompt response – appreciated. I guess it was uncertainty regarding cancelling that was concerning us, so thanks for clarifying. So if Im following correctly, I could potentially order the 85 edition now (with the current 500 promotion) and if the 85x or ID4 equivalent is reduced during Qtr4 then hopefully the dealer will allow me to cancel and re-0rder the other model at the lower AP or failing that cancel the order in full and then goto another dealer for the 85x? Lastly, if I did need to cancel outright any hints or tips in how to approach this (email/in person etc)? My local skoka dealer made it sound like it never happens and they have no control over this once the order is placed? Thanks again.

Providing the dealership has build slots available, yes you can order now (or try a different dealer if the dealer has no build slots).

If the AP does go down on 1st October, it is a bit of a paperwork exercise for the dealer to cancel and reorder at the lower AP on the Motability system. They still get paid the same, regardless. If they stick rigidly to the official policy and say they cannot do it, simply tell them you are cancelling the order in total.

Then go elsewhere and order at the new lower AP.

Do not be drawn into paying any deposit at the time of order – it is not required. If a dealer is insistent about a deposit, go elsewhere. Paying a deposit may complicate things a little should you wish to cancel (other than perhaps paying for ordered ‘Optional Extras’ – which really should be avoided anyway).

To cancel an order, contact the dealership – either phone, in person or e-mail. You only create a binding contract when you input the PIN on collection of the vehicle  so just an order  form is not binding). If the dealership gets a bit funny about cancelling, contact Motability and they can cancel your order (simply tell Motability you have changed your mind).

Remember, you as the customer control the narrative on this, not the car dealer!
