Type 2 charging cable plug pinout (also type 1 & 3)

We are interested in pins marked:
CP – Control Pilot (current limit)
PP – Proximity pilot (plug present)
PE – Protective Earth
There is a resistor present in a charging cable across PP & PE. The value of the resistor tells the car how many amps/current to draw when charging so not overload the cable by drawing too much current….
13A granny charger – will have a resistor value of typically 1.5k ohm 0.5w, which tells the car not to take more than 2.3kW. The Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment has a recommended interpretation range of between 1 to 2.7k ohms. (I will put this in brackets for the rest)
20A (16A common) – 680 ohm 0.5w resistor (330-1k ohmes interpretation range)
32A – 22 ohm 1w resistor (150 – 330 ohm interpretation range)

Now the interesting bit – You can turn that charging cable into a V2L cable by simply changing the value of the resistor across PP and PE!
By replacing the resistor, that exists across PP & PE with a resistor of a suitable value, it will be technically achievable to have a V2L lead rated at 7kW! However, it may be necessary to put a link or resistor across terminals CP & PE but, I won’t be going into this any further!
