I personally think that this is only going to get worse once everyone is forced to own one. The government is not going to want to lose the massive amounts of money they make on the taxation of fossil fuels and the only way they will achieve this is if they transfer these taxes onto EV charging. You will also be at the mercy of the electrical companies who again once they know everyone is a captive audience will to their utmost to maximise their profits
Current expectations are for a more use based taxation system, where cars are taxed for both where and when they are used. Thus those doing business miles will pay more than gran who drives to Sainsbury’s once a fortnight. This is easily achievable by having a tracking box that reports where and when it’s used on a regular basis.
Either way, nobody on this forum will be paying a road tax unless disability exemptions are cut.
