As your partner was the sole named driver of the Motability vehicle, he would be named as the person covered by insurance. Your partner therefore will have to declare on future insurance policy’s for 5 years.

When your partner was rear ended, it depends whether you past on the details of the third party who rear ended the car, to the insurance. It also depends whether your partner or third party was deemed at fault, to whether it was recorded as you partner was at fault or non fault (third party blamed) and if fully recovery of repair costs were claimed of the third party insurer. Regardless who was at fault, you need to declare it on future policy’s for 5yrs.

You can request a copy of the claims history for the Motability car from DLM and use the details if your partner applies for his own insurance. However, if one or both the accidents aren’t finalised, the claims history letter may show as pending or words to that effect. This may increase the price he pays for insurance, untilll the claim/s are finalised.

Whatever your partner decides, do not lie when applying for insurance, as insurance companies share details on a database 🙂
