Whilst Keyzos comments bear sone merits, when we talk about ‘high end” Cars such as BMW  Mercedes Audi etc, in the UK, the majority of these cars are leased as company vehicles not individual buyers/lessors. These still are a good bet for them as the Benefit in kind is much less on an ec. When paying their own money, people choose smaller, cheaper cars.

Whils’t I agree to a point about premium cars, it does depend on indvidual financies or the fact of buying nearly new.

Even those paying with their own money, that margin between smaller cheaper car is still there. Take the Peugeot 208 which has a starting price of £20,400, the electric version on the otherhand starts at £32,400. Thats  a vast difference for the average person.

The point I’m trying to make, is the average punter going into a showroom after a vehicle to get them from a to b, is met with a choice of £20k or £32k, for essentially the same car he or she wants to go work and back, shopping in once a week and for the odd day trip. Which car would they choose?

There lies the problem most if not all manufacturers are facing, even at the entry level, the pricing difference’s are thousands of pounds. Untill this is addressed take up will be slower, than perhaps it should have been. Addressing the issue shouldn’t be at the detrimental to the battery type either.
