Well that certainly beats my year!

After having a driver-less over sized Transit plough into my drivers door at 40mph some 3-1/2 years ago I thought I was doing OK until last January.

Had to be cut out, went to hospital where I was pretty much OK, no major physical damage, was told I had Atrial Fibrilation in the ambulance on the way there.  After a few hours they discharged me and I got the bus home!.  A couple of months later I was getting a diabetic check and they picked up the AF in my foot pulse, nurse brought in my GP and I was put on blood thinners and that was that, or so I thought.

Over the next 2 years I noticed I was getting prone to mis-judging things on my right side, walking into door frames, falling over with poor balance, missing the opening when putting washing into the washing machine or tumble dryer, typing with increasing mistakes etc.  Reported this to my GP a few times but just said to keep an eye on it.

In January this year the car insurance claim was finally underway and they sent me to a cardiologist and a neurologist.  Neurologist sent me for a scan and he says I had a clot and now some damage in my left cerebellum, he reckons I either had a stroke during the accidentwhile I was unconcious  or the blood thinners loosened a bit of placue when I was put on them causing the damage.

Cardiologist was also less than happy, had the usual tests and went home wearing a monitor. Turns out I still have the AF (which I’d guessed), some damage to one of my lower chambers or the valve and a pulse rate of 194!.  Asked my why I wasn’t on Beta Blockers and an ACE inhibitor?, simple answer was nobody had ever said I needed them!.  He put me under the heart failure team, 6 months later I’m on 2 more meds and no longer under them as I’m on the max dosage of all 3 meds and nothing else they can do, unless things get worse!.

So, from being quite happily ignorant of any problems in January I’m now not so happy!.  Oh, and a broken finger which is still pointing in the wrong diection and doesn’t bend, back at the hospital for that on Weds!  🙂

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
