If you receive a higher rate mobility allowance, you can learn to drive from the age of 16.
You can apply for your provisional licence three months before your sixteenth birthday – just apply online at gov.uk(opens in a new window) or get a D1 application form from your local Post Office.
You can learn to drive in your Scheme car or WAV Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle as long as:
You have a provisional licence
You’re listed as a driver on your Certificate of Motor Insurance
You’re accompanied by a driver who is over 21 and has had their licence for at least three years – they should be named on your Certificate of Motor Insurance too
