Do you think it’ll be too soon for the prices to reflect Rishi has basically give ICE a longer life now???? That’ll be kick in the teeth for the likes of VW! But obv, Labour might overuse but I would’ve thought it’s just ruined EVs sales predictions
It won’t make any difference at all in the short term. Even with the original 2030 date we were all at least 2 more Motability cars away from having the ICE choice removed, now it will be 3 or 4 cars away. The change was already a long way in the future. Now it’s just even longer away
As I said on another thread, I think it will result in lower APs for EVs on Motability in the years to come, as whilst the 2030 date has moved back to 2035, the targets on manufacturers remain. They have to hit high take ups of EVs by 2030 or face fine of £15,000 per car! Given that the growth in EVs is almost exclusively coming from fleet customers (due to lower company car tax and/or not having to stump up the considerable extra up-front costs), with the vast majority of private buyers still having a lot of reservations (the main reason for the postponement, as these people are voters), I can see manufacturers doing some very good deals with Motability and other lease companies to get their numbers up.
