I wonder if Motability will change a bit now though, will manufacturers dump a load of EV’s onto the scheme (a good thing) or even introduce more diesels? Of course, if / when Labour get in next year they will probably just change the date back to 2030 anyway.

I’d like to think that Motability would change tack a bit Andy, but I doubt it. The vast majority of decent additions to the scheme over the last year or so have been EVs or PHEVs, most at very high APs. They seem to be on a mission with this, in spite of the fact that they are not an environmental organisation. They also don’t seem to be worried about the fact that the majority of their customers probably can’t afford those sorts of APs or, even if they could, wouldn’t want to sink that sort of money into a car that they will never own, on top of the £11,000 sacrificed benefits.

I don’t see Labour changing the dates. 2030 was unachievable. That’s been blindingly obvious for some time, the only decision being when to announce it. As I said in a previous post, the tipping point hinged on public opinion. In spite of the huffing and puffing of a few car manufacturers and environmental groups, public opinion (supported by public buying habits) seems to be firmly behind the decision to delay. Clearly the fact that we are in the final year before a General Election is purely coincidental ?
