Hi @Brydo my understanding is more of let common sense prevail and let the switch occur more naturally ontop of:
1- Both EU and UK manufacturers have said they are not ready to meet the 40% origin target, which will lead to a 10% import tariff, undoubtedly this cost will be bared by the consumer.
2- The EU as set a date of 2035. Surely it makes sense to fall in line with that regardless of whether were in or out of the EU, given at least 75% of the vehicles on UK roads come from member states. Delaying the ban would also extend time to get the infrastructure right.
3- Regardless of when the ban of new petrol and diesel cars comes into force, it has no bearing on those that wish to switch earlier as they are free to do so.
4- A recent report by the SMMT stated that private uptake of BEV’s were still at only 8%, with the rest going to leasing fleets. The SMMT suggested government incentives were needed, which the government couldn’t afford or so they would say at this time. Perhaps if the date were delayed there would be a better chance as economy would be in a better position.
5- Even if ICE were banned today there would still be millions on our roads as the ban would not stop their use. Putting everything else asside how many Motabilty customers would buy/able to Afford a BEV if the scheme ended today?
After the 6 weeks school holidays we had extended test drives in both the Q4-Etron and the Aryia. Winter range was a big concern of mine, especially getting upto my parents in an mergency. I also suffer with Raynauds and personally see no luxury in driving dressed uo like an Eskimo and then there’s my right foot lol. I’m not against them, rather they are not suitable for my needs for the forseeable future. However as a qualified EVCS/P installer, that hasn’t stopped me helping those on this forum with EVCP installation questions 🙂
