It’s a shame that this thread was moved to ‘Off Topic’ as it’s extremely relevant to Motability.

Those of us who have been saying for ages that it was blindingly obvious that the 2030 date would have to move back will have to wait a little longer to say “we told you so”, as apparently the decision hasn’t been signed off yet, as it’s not without challenges (not least for those who are investing in battery manufacturing plants etc).

Besides @Berty has told us categorically that the 2030 date is going to move forward, not backward ?

On a serious note, the only question for me was whether the decision to postpone would be taken by the current government or the next one. A political decision will be taken as to whether a postponement is a vote winner or vote loser. Up until a year or so ago I think a postponement may have been seen as a vote loser (softening green targets etc) but I think the mood has changed and there’s lots of commentary now on “the war against motorists”. Add this to the fact that the take up of EVs amongst private buyers is nowhere near where it needs to be (for all sorts of reasons that we can easily overlook as lease customers) and the decision is no longer ‘if’ it will be postponed, just ‘when’.
