Hi, my dad is eligible for a motability car and I’m the only one in our household who has a license. I work 3 days a week and was wondering if I would be allowed to use the car to drive to work. The motability scheme states that the car must be used for the benefit of the disabled person, in this case I am the only one working and my income goes directly to providing for the my dad and the household. I’m asking this because my current car is very small so it’s a struggle to get my dad in and out of the car and there’s no space for a wheelchair so I want to know if I’ll need to hold onto my current car for work and then also get a bigger car through motability for my dad.
The vehicle should always be used for the benefit of the disabled person as you know. However if you are a named driver and you are supporting the Motability customer by working and providing an income for the household then that should be ok. For peace of mind it’s worth a call to Motability and run it past them first 🙂
