I don’t understand the “i can normally fill my tank up with petrol and be driving on my merry way in about 10 mins which leaves me scratching my head why anyone would prefer to wait multiple hours to charge an EV?” My answers would be:

I wake up every morning with 230 miles of range at 90% charge. How often do you drive more than 230 miles? For me, that’s maybe 2-3 times a year. Meanwhile, my 230 miles has cost me £4.20, or, roughly, 1/2 the cost of one gallon of fuel. 400-450mpg equivalent.

When I do take a trip (my last was 1300 miles) charging was basically plug in, go to the loo, get a coffee, go back to the car & drive to next charge stop over 2 hours away by which time I needed the loo again. Yes, I’ve driven further without stopping/just getting fuel in an ICE vehicle. But my North Scotland to Southern Kent 530 mile journey to see family, a journey I’ve done countless times, was just 30 mins longer overall than my typical ICE time. I stopped 3 times overall & arrived with 100 miles of range. In an ICE vehicle, we stop for mid-morning coffee, then lunch then an afternoon coffee, so the same overall 3 stop strategy at pretty much the same places.

I don’t understand the “multiple hours” in particular, most cars, you stop at around 20%, charge to 80-90%, which for most cars is around 30mins or less on a rapid 100-350kw charger. Some EVs on the scheme will do the same in 10-12 minutes (but the AP is eye-watering).

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
