Current EV batteries are a risk if punctured. The crashed cars are stored with extra space around them.
But that is this year, next year the new CATL batteries have less fire risk, and technology will improve in the near future.
Currently, the UK is not invcesting in its people. There are thousands of technicians mechanics who will have to re-train to deal with EV’s and the 400V batteries. they will in effect be closer to an auto eloectrician than anything else.
I watch salvage rebuilds uk on YT, and these guys fix accident damaged cars. they bought a hybrid car and couldnt do anythng with it. They couldnt go near the car as they didnt have the knowledge to deal with it.
Fortunately, they had an auto electrician fix the problems and he filmed their process to restore the EV battery to a working condition. A 50p resistor had blown and shut everytihing down.
The UK needs to invest in this technology, already China is the leader, and despite Tesla the US will want to hang on to their V8’s, they do not like change.
