I was on Pension Credit when I reach pension age and my wife was receiving the Carers Allowance as she had done since I became disabled and she had to stop work to look after me. She did carry on for a couple of years in her old job but with local council cuts and myself having accidents like trips and falls at home trying to do things I can no longer do she thought it best to give up working and keep a closer eye on me.

When my wife / carer reach her pension age the PC and the CA stopped that day because our two combined state pensions was above the amount they said we needed to live on.

The letter to my wife from the DWP at the time of here retirement said “although the DWP has stopped paying you CA you are still my carer and can continue doing so.” Isn’t that ever so kind of them. ?
