It was always going to be the case that the dates would be moved. The new insistence that ICE engines after 2035 will run on e-fuels will also be moved. The closer we get, the further away the target will move.
Even if this e-fuel thing goes nowhere (and I have no idea whether it will or not), it has been blindingly obvious for a long time that these dates would have to change, for countless reasons. The only question is when anyone in government is brave enough to admit it!
