tip to make his Qled look like his Oled
Firstly ask yourself why he is only demonstrating a game and a low resultion one at that and not a movie or TV show?
The Samsung was a flagship in 2020 and has full array local dimming zones. It only has a little over 100 of these dimming zones in say a block of 12×12 LED’s in each zone that can be individually controlled. This allows each zone to beable to set different brightness levels in different areas of an image. By the nature of an LCD panel the native contrast ratio can only hit 4000:1 because dimming zone can only be dimmed and never off.
On the other hand an OLED has no backlight and each and every pixel, 8,294,400 to be precice will not only beable to set different brightness levels but importantly also beable to turn them off each and every one of them off. By doing so the native contrast ratio becomes infinity. Another inherent problem of LED is blooming that can look like an halo effect around a bright scene due to their ability to only dim and not turn off LEDs (some are worse than others)
You can adjust the settings all day long to replicate the OLED look on a particular scene, but doing that you can details and worst of all you can make other scenes look horrible. The other thing to mention is hardware limitations will never be fully overcome by adusting the software by that I mean settings. It might give you a pleasing look of an OLED in one scene but will likely ruin other scenes.
A basic global dimming QLED won’t have and dimming zones and by its nature will never get close. On the other hand a mini LED with full array local dimming will get closer and be eye watering brighter. The latest quabtum OLEDs will also get eye watering bright and match the mini LED but also retain the quality of OLED because it uses an OLED panel to start with.
The later Samsung Qn90B is mini LED with 240 full array local dimming zones As does the TCL C835 which may have slightly more. The Samsung Q90B 50″ is on offer for £750 with various codes supplied by Samsung. It won’t get much if any lower in price and are decent TV’s.
