It’s a beautiful day here in the Malvern Hills. JRR Tolkien spent a lot of time here with his great friend C S Lewis. They walked the hills and fantasised about imagined kingdoms created by the vistas that surrounded them. Today is one of those creative days. The sun is shining in shafts through gaps in grey and white clouds. Bredon Hill stands black and forbidding yet the fields between it and the Cotswold escarpment are dappled in brilliant sunshine. The bright light is sharply contouring woodland and fields and the occasional farmhouse, and the only sounds are the rustling of leaves and birdsong. It’s another day in paradise.
