When providing customers with courtesy cars, dealers will need to check your driving licence record to make sure you aren’t disqualified or have a high number of points. They do this through the ‘share my licence’ scheme with DVLA. It’s free and they need your National Insurance number. I tend to do it myself the night before and show it to them (you get a code), as it’s valid for (from memory) 28 days and saves time on the day. You are usually provided with the dealers insurance cover. They usually try to ‘upsell’ extra cover (due to the very high excess) but I always decline this. In the unlikely event of an accident I would assume that you would fall back on your Motability insurance.
