Sadly I think you are right Kezo. If it’s so bad, I can’t see why they spent 3 years bringing it to market.
Shame really I had high hopes of not seen its rotary engine for 20 years. I can’t see it being popular here, especially with it’s killer fuel economy. As for the performance yes it average but, I was expecting a far quicker 0-62 along with a top speed of 87 it does seem a little limp.
I wouldn’t class it as a failure , rather a learning curve as manufacturers develop new technology. Maybe the fact it was a phev, and the battery weight was just to much along with the added weight of the electric motors for driving the wheels isn’t the right combination for an engine generator.Hence Nissan seem’s to have hit the nail on the head by exculding a larger phev battery.
It would have being very interesting what the Mazda would have achieved if it had dropped the PHEV as the E-power does or used a RX 7/8 1.3 13b engine ??
