When my cars have been in a workshop and given a dealer courtesy car, it has always been a much lower model and specification. I never understood the missed sales opportunity that if you were to give them a better model than they dropped off, an owner may get persuaded to trade up – e.g. drop off a BMW 3 series given the owner a 5 as courtesy car.
Once I dropped off a very high end BMW and was given a cinquecento (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Cinquecento) hardly the thing for the directors car park. When I raised the issue, I was told these were the only cars they had. When I pointed to the used cars on the forecourt, the workshop manager mentioned that they were for “new customers ….” and as he trailed off, realised what he said and then said he would get the keys for them.
